Welcome to the part of the SI web site that proves that my writing skills are about as sharp as a bowling ball. This is a little semi-fictional nugget we like to call Contest Journal.
This week, Tim and I attended the Evansville North and Princeton shows. The forecast was for great weather and Tim and I were chomping at the bit to get started.
Since we both live in Evansville, the trip to Central Stadium for the morning show was fairly short. As is always the case, it was important to us to listen to the proper music to get us mentally ready to take some photos. The short drive meant that our options were limited, but fortunately Tim and I had the same thing in mind. We chose Mary Schneiders "Yodelling the Classics - Volume 2."
That's right, there's two of them and we have them both!!!

Calling Mary Schneider extreme is like calling the ocean damp. Years of hanging out in the Alps and drinking Swiss Miss Cocoa have turned her into a yodeling machine! Rolling Stone Magazines music editor gave her first album five starts and raved: "the pain emanating in her warbling gizzard was exquisite!" A Spin Magazine reviewer said: "At first I feared her, but soon I wanted to be like her." Billboard Magazine summed it all up by saying: "The album is a must have for anyone into Goth and Heavy Metal, or guys driving to marching band contests."
We made some edits to the SI site before we left for the show on Saturday morning. That caused us to run a little behind schedule, but we managed to make it to the stadium just before the show started. Members of the audience welcomed us as we made our way onto the track to prepare to take photos.
"Hey Scott, your toupee wouldn't look any less fake if it had a chin strap!" and "I checked out the photos from last week's shows on the SI web site. That's 30 minutes of my life that I'll never get back!" were some of the comments we heard from our friends in the stands - those kidders!!
With the migration of backdrops to the front of the field, it is now harder to shoot photos of some bands. We managed to find a small platform to stand on to allow one of us to shoot over the "frontdrops." Unfortunately it was barely big enough for one person to stand on and it wasn't big enough to shoot with a monopod. Tim, being the problem solver of our team quickly came up with a solution.
Man, that monopod was pointy!
The Evansville North show concluded and Tim and I ran full speed back to my car so we could get home and update the web site. We knew that people's lives depended on us updating the site and we didnt want to let anyone down.
After we got the site updated - sans photos - we took off for Princeton. A combination of things made us a few minutes late so we missed Northeast Dubois show. Sorry guys.
In the spirit of WFIE-TVs Battle of the bands and various peoples choice contests in southern Indiana, the Princeton band boosters decided to have a battle of the band web sites at their invitational.
SI finished second to "Other band web sites" in the peoples choice awards for favorite web site that covers southwestern Indiana bands category. In this photo, Tim proudly shows off our prize for coming in second place - a coupon for a free bikini wax from the Paraffin Pleasure Palace in Princeton's trendy business district.
With the popularity of the hit TV show The Apprentice, one of the local TV stations has decided to do a series called The Band Apprentice starring Boonville director Fran Vile. In this photo Mr. Vile demonstrates his "Youre Fired" gesture.
What a great day! We got to see many outstanding performances and talk to a bunch of our friends. We cant wait until next week! It is sure to be another great adventure.
