Welcome to the portion of the web site that prompts the question: Just how much lead-based paint did Tim and Scott ingest when they were toddlers? This is the chronological chasm we like to call Contest Journal.

For this contest journal, Tim and I headed up to Vincennes to check out the Vincennes Lincoln Pre-Season Marching Band Spectacular. Jason King and the rest of the folks at Vincennes Lincoln always put on a great show so we were excited to get started.

The day started for me at 4:00am when a stomach cramp woke me from a deep sleep.

I jumped out of bed and tried to stretch my stomach muscles. I took a hot shower to soothe my belly. By then I was too awake to go back to be go I got ready to go to the show.

It had been several months since we shot marching bands, so we had to be sure and take the necessary steps to put us in the right frame of mind before the show. To accomplish that, we had to listen to the proper music on the trip to Vincennes. The drive from the SI corporate headquarters in western Vanderburgh County to Vincennes was about an hour and ten minutes (or twenty minutes if Tim is driving) so we had to listen to something short, but intense.

There was only one album that fit the bill - Fly, by Yoko Ono

This album is 94 minutes and 52 seconds of pure auditory...something.

Here's the classic song "Don't Worry Kyoko (Mummy's Only Looking for Her Hand in the Snow)"

That little slice of heaven was recorded live at the Varsity Stadium, Toronto, September 13, 1969.

When we made it to Inman field in Vincennes we decided that grab something to drink before we started shooting. We soon found out that the concession stand was selling a new water product imported from Europe. Total Amplified Power, or TAP Water is all the rage in the Sweden and is expected to sweep across the USA in the coming months. At $5 a bottle, it was like they were giving it away!

The show had only five bands, so it didn't last very long. That was fine for us, because we getting pretty hot and sweaty. We decided to run over to the concession stand and get some more TAP Water before they sold out of it. On the way to the concession stand, we noticed the cool programmable concession sign the band boosters recently installed.

We decided to bypass the concession stand so we could hurry up, go home and update the site.

What a great show! Not only did we get a sneak peek at Vincennes Lincoln, South Knox, and Princeton, but we got to see a couple Illinois bands too! The show got Tim and me pretty hyped for the upcoming season! We can't wait for it to start.
