"A Pre-Season Show: Held at Vincennes Lincoln"

author: Deemer

Event: Pre-Season Show
When: August 23rd, 2003

Although it's been common with schools in Kentucky, there has not been a "pre-season" to speak of for marching bands in southwestern Indiana -- well, at least there hasn't been one until now...

The visionary band at Vincennes Lincoln H.S. hosted a full day of non-competitive fellowship and comradery providing Marching Bands from around the area the opportunity to practice & perform for the other groups. Those schools that attended this new event included:

  • South Knox
  • Pike Central
  • Princeton
  • Vincennes Lincoln

Scott & I had our own little adventure in locating the facility; but that's another story that you can read in the Contest Journal for today [located in the Feature section] =)

Once at the facility, we took it all in - watching & listening to each group as they performed their show. Obviously, this early in the season most groups didn't have their entire show on the field, however, what was presented was great to see! We snapped a few photos (see the link on the left) while we were entertained by these 4 great bands. If there is ever any doubt that Marching Band is alive and well in Southwestern Indiana, let the performances witnessed at this event put that to rest! Great job to all who performed!

Thanks to Jason King for inviting us to attend. We certainly enjoyed the performances of the 4 bands that participated in this great, original, event. We look forward to a repeat performance next year (perhaps becoming an annual event) and would love to see other groups join in to increase in the number of groups that participate. We will surely plan to be there, covering it for SI!

We wish all bands their best performances as they prepare their shows & proceed through the 2003 season.

    Sincerely,
    Tim & Scott
    The SI Guys
