"My Favorite Marching Band Story" Entry: Nathan Russel

"The Evansville Central Drumline works hard all the time. All they want is a taste of victory. Victory not only drives the taste buds, but the heart, mind and soul. Our drumline is made up of three tenors, three snares, and four basses. We all agree on one thing and that is taste. We all must agree on the visuals that we choose. Taste is an image, an image that is always displayed whenever we are together. We try hard to take everyone's tastes and wants into consideration, but with ten people in a drumline that doesn't always happen. Sometimes we get in small arguments over small tastes. These help us as much as they hurt us. When we need to get things done we remember that our tastes don't matter when it comes to being one and being a drumline. Our main goal as a drumline is to offer our knowledge and our talented skills to play and march a show the best we can. Therefore we all must look the same and have the same tastes. This is why we sit down once a week and discuss our tastes to see what we can improve. We always listen to other people's tastes and comments at this time. We then make a transition from our personal tastes to the drumline as a whole. This is where we decide what we march and play represent our taste to the fans and most importantly the judges. Without thinking ahead you never can succeed to your full potential. We believe in one thing, "One drumline, means one sound. "We try our hardest to make this motto become a reality each and every weekend. Without a successful drumline our band couldn't be what it is today. Our drumline and any drumline are the heart, mind, and soul of every band and this is why our taste matters so much. I personally think that every drumline out there is competing for one thing and that is the judge’s tastes. We want to target what the judge is thinking and make it positive. So positive that he or she might change their mind and join with us. Join in to make our drumline successful and tasteful. Our drumline is the restaurant serving your food and we hope that the taste is the best in town."
