The prize...

What's in it for you if you win? Not much! We have no budget, but we did manage to get our hands on a few SI baseball caps - donated by our friends at The Band Shoppe in Poseyville, IN. The person submitting the winning entry will get a cap so they can shamelessly promote SI while keeping glare out of their eyes and/or preventing their head from getting sunburned, if they happen to be bald like Scott.

Contest #2: [We're on a roll]

author: Scottman

Topic: "My Favorite Marching Band Story"
Deadline: 10:00 PM Central Time, Wednesday Oct 1.

Due to the overwhelming number of entries we received (well, actually five) in the first annual "Draw Your Director" Contest, we decided to have another contest. This one is equally weird, but we think you will have a lot of fun doing it.

We are calling this contest: "My Favorite Marching Band Story." In this contest we are asking the participants to write a story, either fiction or non-fiction, about their marching band...

...but there is a catch.   (wouldn't ya know we'd do that)

We require each entry to have the word "tasty" in it eleven [11] times (non-consecutively) throughout the story.

Stupid? Yes, but Tim and I thought that just writing a story would be too easy, so we wanted to make it more challenging, and even more importantly, fun.

What does the winner receive? An official SI cap, of course!

We will post a bunch or the entries on the SI web site - or maybe even all, depending on how many we receive.

So get to writing and email your stories to us at info@simplyinstrumental.com

Of course there are some rules you must obey:

  1. The contest is open to middle school & high school instrumental music students only.
  2. To be considered for the contest, each story must have the word "tasty" in it eleven non-consecutive times.
  3. Stories must be suitable to post on the Simply Instrumental web site. In other words, the stories cannot contain: profanity; vulgar or lewd references; sexually explicit references; references to alcohol, drugs or drug paraphernalia; or be degrading to anyone in any way. Any stories deemed by the judges to violate this rule will be automatically disqualified.
  4. Only use first names when referring to people, unless they are your teachers, which you can refer to as Mr. or Ms. "last name."
  5. Please include your name, what band you are a member of, and an email address where we can reach you.
  6. Stories can be submitted electronically (via email), given to us directly on September 27th (Tim and I will be attending the Castle Invitational and the Evansville North Invitational), or you can mail them to me the old fashioned way via the U.S. Post Office.

    My address is:

    Scott Leatherland
    P.O. Box 4166
    Evansville, IN 47724

  7. Judging will be performed by persons not affiliated with any band - just some people Tim and I know.
  8. The deadline for entry submission is 10:00pm Central Time on Wednesday, October1st, 2003. In other words, I must have your entry in my possession by 10:00pm Central Time on 10/1/03 for it to be considered by the judges.
  9. All decisions made by the judges are final.
The author of the winning entry will be contacted via email approximately one week after the contest ends to arrange delivery of the SI cap. Best of luck!!

We have a
The judges have spoken, and we are glad to announce the winner of the first annual SI "Favorite Marching Band Story" contest is Kaelee Johnson from Washington High School. The competition was fierce, with the runner-up being disqualified on a technicality [it's "tasty", Nathan, not "taste" *grin*]

We'd like to thank all *cough* the people that submitted their stories for judging...

Kaelee -- enjoy the hat!

Sincerely,
Tim & Scott
