The Journal...
Welcome to the part of the SI web site that is the equivalent to an electronic sleeping pill - something we like to call Contest Journal.
This week Tim and I headed to the east side of Evansville to Bosse High School for a
Tri-State Circuit winter guard/winter percussion show.
Choosing the proper music is critical for the road trip. We believe that the music we listen to not only puts us in the proper frame of mind for the show, but it
also directly affects the quality of our photos we take.
Tim and I have Mars Fever! The recent photos beamed back from the Mars exploration missions brought out the astronauts in us. That is reflected in
the music we chose for the brief trip to Bosse High School. There is only one artist who can capture the euphoria Tim and I experience whenever we view
the photos of the Martian landscape - Robert Alberg
and his mega hit Martian Sands.

To celebrate our first winter guard show of the season Tim and I decided to treat ourselves to a hardy lunch before the show. We had heard that there was
a place on the way to Bosse that had a turkey sandwich to die for.
$1,200 later, we were back on the road to the show.
The trip continued without incident until a few minutes later when we were appalled by a scene that terrified and saddened us. Despite a concerted
effort by the authorities, some people continue to take unnecessary risks with alcohol and recreational drugs.
Friends, don’t let friends drink and spell.
Once we made it to the show, we got our cameras ready and settled in for what promised to be a great contest. Tim and I love talking to the seven loyal
visitors to our web site. The only problem is that sometimes they want to talk to us while we are trying to shoot. We don’t want to be rude to anyone so we
had to come up with something to gently let people know that we don’t want to be approached while we were taking photos. Fortunately Tim came up with
an ingenious idea to get the point across.
The highlight of the show was the performance of the hot new winter guard called Judges Break. We tried to photograph them, but we couldn’t see them.
It turns out that the guard uses the latest in nanotechnology to make themselves extremely small for performances. It is a brilliant idea that is certainly going to
become the standard for all guards in the future.

Tim and I had a great time at the show! It seems like every year the performances get better and better. Also we are learning more about the activity and making
new friends along the way. By the way, we never get tired of hearing phrases like: "Hey Tim and Scott, what's the AOL keyword for Simply Instrumental?"
"Will the photos be online when I get home in 15 minutes?" or "What's an 'Internet'?" These are truly the best of times...
See ya next week at North Posey!
