Important questions

Every year bandos, directors, parents and police officers serving us with cease and desist orders ask us why we produce SI. Do we get paid for doing the web site? Don’t we have something better to do with our time? Why don’t you do a NASCAR site instead?

The intent of this feature is to answer many of the common questions we get about the SI web site and to give you a look into the making of arguably the most mediocre band web site on the Internet.

So grab a drink, sit back and enjoy this tour of the inner workings of SI.

Behind the Scenes at SI

Sure, you all know who Tim and Scott are, but what's the REAL story behind Simply Instrumental? Due to the overwhelming number of requests we have received about the SI web site, we decided to finally lift the veil of mystery and share with our seven loyal readers the story behind the massive corporate machine that IS SI.

Q: Whose behind SI?
A: The SI International Corporation, Inc.

This is just a few of the thousands of SI staffers

The corporation has literally thousands of employees from many disciplines that are totally devoted to providing adequate information on all of the marching bands in southwestern Indiana - or at least the ones who talk to us.

Q: Where are the corporate offices located?
A: Our address is:
1 SI Tower
Rahm, IN 47712

The SI Tower

The SI corporate complex has a very innovative and absolutely wonderful work environment:

...and is filled with state of the art equipment

The entire staff are a bunch of fun-loving folks who are passionate about marching bands.

In this photo ex-bando and SI web design associate Chris Chun asks Tim to "pull her finger."

Q: What's the primary goal of Simply Instrumental?
A: Actually the main goal of the corporation is to educate people about the virtues of the pageantry arts. By tirelessly promoting marching bands, winter guards and percussion ensembles, we will make the world a better place...and make a few bucks for our stockholders. The best tool to do this is by educating the world about the activity. It is the very foundation on which our corporation is built.

The SI corporate motto:
If you want to know about bands, SI is a great place to learn at!

Q: How do the SI guys manage to make it to so many shows?
A: One of the great things about working for a huge corporation is that we have various methods of travel at our disposal. For short trips (under 15 miles) we can utilize the N90SI helicopter.

If we have to travel a little farther, like to Jasper or maybe Indianapolis we can hop on the SI corporate jet.

We try our best to attend as many shows as possible, but we can't be at all of them. Fortunately the team of researchers at SI Labs are developing a race of robotic staffers to cover for us at the shows that we can't make.

Look for the "Scottborg" to make it's debut during the 2006 marching season

Q: Do we make money from the web site?
A: Are you kidding? We make more than we can count! To help explain how this works, check out the following diagram:

The Simply Instrumental Business Model:
Step 1Step 2Step 3
Tim & Scott show up at a contest (usually late) and take a few photos. Complex and difficult to describe business processes take place. The Simply Instrumental Corporation makes an enormous profit.

We hope you enjoyed the "behind the scenes" tour of SI. We feel much better that we finally came clean about our corporation and hope that you don't hold it against us.

XOXO,
Tim and Scott
